Taratantara. Anish Kapoor

Project Management (Baltic), Installation Services (Naples) - Marc Thomas

The Baltic flour mills in Gateshead was the site for Anish Kapoor’s sculpture taratantara a vivid red membrane tensioned at either end of the building the structure was 52m in length 27m high and 17m wide.

With approximately 25 fixed points at either end of the building the membrane was tensioned using purpose made ratchets.

Chain winches were also used to assist tensioning and tirfors (cable winches) were attached through the membrane rings to guide and secure the membrane in case of high winds.

The sculpture was later taken to Naples in Italy were it was erected between two massive scaffold towers.
