Tarner neighbourhood seating project
In 2006 millimetre and Sol Leon won the Tarner neighbourhood seating competition, we were commissioned by Brighton and Hove city council to design and manufacture a public bench.
Our cantilevered water-cut plywood and steel bench was developed over several weeks in conjunction with feed-back from Tarner residents. The resulting design is ergonomic, fun, practical and durable.
The plywood profiles are held in place through compression, these profiles [once the fixings have been loosened], can be lifted allowing the profile of the bench to be subtly adjusted. The profiles can be quickly removed for repair or replacement.
The bench is dedicated to the late Paul Hooker.
