An installation by artist/musician Jem Finer whilst in residence at Oxford University with the astrophysics department.
Manufactured from timber, plywood wire mesh and copper bar the sculpture's spiralling structure is centred around a seven metre high telegraph pole.
Working closely with Jem and structural engineer's Atelier the piece was which was produced off site and then brought to University Parks in kit form.
The piece is not just sculptural it's an actual working radio telescope, the seven metre diameter parabolic mesh covered dish directs radio waves into the copper receiver.
'A lot of people don't realise that there is a connection, that the dish actually does pick up a signal, that the shed is not simply a random accumulation of wood and nails, but a room in which the signal is received, converted to sound and line, drawn by a mechanical hand'.
